“I can remember being at Sandringham for the first time at Christmas and worrying about what to give the Queen. I thought, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?’” she shared.
Opting for a personal and heartfelt approach, Kate decided to make something by hand. “I thought, ‘I’ll make her something.’ Which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe for chutney,” she revealed.
Despite her initial nerves, Kate’s homemade chutney was warmly received. To her delight, the next day, she noticed the chutney on the royal table during Christmas dinner.
The Princess reflected on how much the Queen’s thoughtful gesture of including the chutney meant to her. “I was slightly worried about it, but seeing it on the table the next day made me feel so relieved. Such a simple gesture went a long way for me, and it showed her thoughtfulness and care in looking after everyone.”
This touching anecdote highlights the warmth and kindness of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the strong family bond shared by the royals, even during the formalities of the festive season.
