Karol Nawrocki Wins Narrow Victory in Poland’s Presidential Run-Off

Conservative candidate Karol Nawrocki has narrowly won Poland’s presidential run-off election, securing 50.89 percent of the vote against liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, who received 49.11 percent, according to final official results announced Monday.

The Polish Electoral Commission confirmed that all votes had been counted, with Nawrocki’s victory marking a closely contested race. At 42 years old, Nawrocki, a historian and former head of the National Remembrance Institute, ran on a platform emphasizing economic and social priorities for Polish citizens, alongside a cautious approach to accepting refugees from Ukraine.

Nawrocki’s eurosceptic and conservative stance appealed to many voters concerned about national identity and sovereignty. While Poland’s parliament controls most legislative power, the presidency holds significant influence through its veto authority.

The election drew intense international interest, given Poland’s key geopolitical role amid tensions involving Ukraine, Russia, the European Union, and the United States.
