[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Hours before the first match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in National Stadium Karachi on Tuesday, the traffic took a turn for the worse around the stadium as diversions due to the blockade of certain roads coupled with the narrowing of University Road because of construction of the Red Line bus rapid transit (BRT) project slowed down the pace of vehicles.
Although the Karachi traffic authorities denied any major problem in traffic movement due to security arrangements for the PSL match, the citizens who travelled around the venue came up with strong reactions mainly on social media.
The main congestion was seen on University Road, where traffic began to build up near Hassan Square and extended all the way to New Town.
No traffic will be allowed to enter Stadium Road from Liaquatabad No10, Hassan Square Bridge, according to a traffic plan issued by traffic authorities for PSL matches in Karachi to be played between February 14 and 26.
Similarly, traffic from University Road’s Expo Centre turning will be prohibited from entering the stadium, while traffic from Stadium Road to Hassan Square will be permitted. From the Stadium Signal to Hassan Square, all types of heavy traffic will be prohibited.
After 5 p.m., traffic began to worsen, and by sunset, it was particularly bad on University Road.
Alternative routes from Liaquatabad to Hasan Square, such as Rashid Minhas Road and Sir Shah Mohammad Sulaiman Road, were also under pressure. Later, there was a traffic jam on Teen Hatti, the already-dug-up Jahangir Road, Nazimabad, Patel Para, and Guru Mandir.
A senior doctor and well-known member of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) took to social media to criticise the situation, citing his own road experience.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
