Karachiites Can Now Enjoy Free WiFi – Learn How to Access It!

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has introduced free WiFi services at major parks and recreational areas across the city, starting with Frere Hall.

This initiative aims to provide citizens with seamless internet access, enhancing connectivity in popular outdoor spaces. Speaking at the inauguration event, Mayor Wahab announced plans to extend the service to other prominent locations, including Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, Kidney Hill Park, Hill Park, Safari Park, and Lake Park, all managed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

“Karachi has joined the league of cities offering free internet in public spaces,” stated Mayor Wahab. “With the growing reliance on smartphones, WiFi availability in recreational areas is now essential.” He emphasized the importance of modern amenities in public spaces, comparing them to those offered by elite clubs like the Gymkhana. “If these facilities are available to the upper class, why not to the lower and middle classes?” he asked, advocating for equitable access to IT centers, restaurants, and other recreational facilities.

The WiFi service at Frere Hall, operational 24/7, can support up to 2,000 users simultaneously, ensuring visitors have easy access to the internet and social media. This launch is the first step in a broader initiative to make Karachi’s public spaces more inclusive and accessible.

In addition to WiFi, Mayor Wahab announced cultural and infrastructural upgrades at Frere Hall. The library has been air-conditioned for improved comfort and will soon offer classes in traditional musical instruments such as tabla, piano, and sitar. Plans are also in place to host live traditional music performances, enriching the cultural experience for visitors.

These efforts aim to transform Karachi’s public spaces into vibrant hubs for connectivity, culture, and community engagement.
