The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted spells of rain accompanied by thunder in Karachi on Thursday (January), as changing weather conditions begin to affect the region.
According to the Met Office, the city’s weather is expected to remain mostly dry over the next 4 hours, with relatively cool temperatures during nighttime. However, residents should be prepared for scattered showers and possible thunderstorms on Thursday as a new weather system approaches the area.
The PMD stated that Karachi’s minimum temperature is likely to stay between 14°C and 16°C, while daytime temperatures may range from 25°C to 27°C. Over the last 24 hours, the lowest temperature recorded in the city was 13.3°C, reflecting a noticeable chill during the night and early morning hours.
Humidity levels in Karachi are currently around 78 percent, contributing to a slightly damp feel in the air. Northeasterly winds are blowing at a mild speed of approximately 4 kilometers per hour. Meteorologists have also indicated that a fresh western weather system is expected to enter Sindh from tomorrow, increasing the chances of rainfall across Karachi and several other districts of the province.
The Met Office’s Early Warning Centre has forecast light to moderate rain with thunder in various parts of Sindh, including Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Nushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Sukkur, and surrounding areas.
In addition, northwesterly winds originating from Balochistan are expected to begin influencing Karachi from tomorrow onward. These winds may further lower temperatures in the coming days. By Friday, the minimum temperature in the city could drop significantly, ranging between 7°C and 9°C, intensifying the cold conditions.
Residents have been advised to stay updated with official weather advisories and take necessary precautions, especially during periods of rain and cooler temperatures
