Final-year Pharmacy students from the University of Karachi have created the world’s smallest rechargeable nebuliser, designed to provide portable respiratory therapy. This innovative device is less than an inch wide, making it easy to carry and use discreetly. It runs for up to 35 minutes on a single charge and lasts for two days before requiring a recharge, making it ideal for everyday use.
The nebuliser is eco-friendly, made from bioplastics, and features both micro-USB and USB-C charging options. Its wireless and soundproof design ensures that patients can receive treatment without the noise and bulk typically associated with traditional nebulisers. This makes it perfect for use at work, while traveling, or in any setting where portability and discretion are important.

One of the key selling points of the device is its affordability. While standard nebulisers in the market often cost between Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000, this compact nebuliser is priced under Rs 2,000. The students aim to make respiratory therapy more accessible to people, particularly children and the elderly, who suffer from conditions like asthma or chest infections.
Developed by a team including Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, Taha Ishaq, Syed Waliuddin, Syeda Arshiya, Zohaib Salman, Maham Zaidi, Priyan Khan, and Tuba Saleem, the nebuliser represents a significant step forward in addressing healthcare challenges in Pakistan. By combining affordability, portability, and environmental consciousness, the team hopes to revolutionize respiratory therapy for those in need.
