The Karachi Traffic Police is preparing to introduce an e-challan Karachi system that will use photo and video evidence to catch traffic violators. This move is part of the second phase of their ongoing public awareness campaign aimed at promoting road safety and law compliance.
Under this new system, digital surveillance will monitor traffic violations across the city. Once a violation is recorded through photos or video, an automated challan (fine) will be generated and sent to the violator’s address by post.
To educate the public, authorities have partnered with outdoor advertising companies. As a result, over 100 locations in Karachi will display awareness material. These include banners, signboards, and streamers sharing important messages about traffic laws and responsible driving.
Videos and other visual content are also being shared to help citizens understand the importance of following road regulations. Officials say this public outreach is crucial before fully implementing the new system.
The e-challan system will operate without physical interaction between officers and drivers. Instead, it relies on a faceless monitoring mechanism, reducing the chance of disputes or bribery. Citizens can also check their challan details through the Karachi Traffic Police’s official mobile app.
DIG Traffic Karachi has held meetings with advertising companies to ensure the awareness campaign reaches all major parts of the city. The goal is to reduce violations and promote a culture of traffic discipline.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has extended the deadline for switching to the new Ajrak-style, security-featured vehicle number plates. The deadline is now October 31, giving more time for vehicle owners to comply.
Authorities continue to urge all drivers to follow traffic laws to avoid fines and legal issues as the city transitions to a more digital traffic enforcement system.
