Karachi Reports Six Additional Cases Of Covid JN.1 Variant

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]In the midst of an intense winter season affecting Pakistan and various parts of the world, the resurgence of Covid-19 cases persists, with a newly identified variant named JN.1 emerging as the predominant strain in the region. Recent developments at Karachi airport have brought attention to the detection of six new cases of the JN.1 Covid-19 variant among passengers arriving from overseas.

Local media reports have indicated that individuals arriving at Jinnah International Airport from abroad underwent rapid antigen tests, revealing that six of them tested positive for the JN.1 variant. The affected individuals hail from various regions, including Swat, Mirpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Charsadda, and Jacobabad. The identification of these new cases has increased the total count of JN.1 variant cases in the port city to 15.

Prior to this, two cases of Covid-19 were reported in passengers arriving at Karachi Airport. Faced with the escalating number of cases, the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) conducted Covid-19 testing for passengers arriving from abroad. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Pakistan’s primary Covid monitoring body approved the implementation of Covid testing at airports and borders.

The Health Minister emphasized that authorities are vigilantly monitoring the situation, particularly due to the emergence of this subvariant of Omicron in certain countries. The proactive measures, including testing at entry points, reflect the government’s commitment to addressing the evolving dynamics of the pandemic and ensuring the safety of the population.

As winter conditions persist and the threat of new Covid-19 variants looms, the authorities remain focused on implementing effective strategies to curb the spread of the virus and protect public health.
