The Karachi Police have arrested a trailer driver accused of running over a Navy employee and fleeing the scene. The tragic incident took place two days ago near Sparco Road, close to the Edhi Graveyard in Karachi’s Mochko area.
According to police reports, the victim, identified as 37-year-old Muhammad Qasim, son of Muhammad Yaqoob, was killed when the speeding trailer hit him and escaped from the spot. The driver had been on the run since the accident, but investigation police in Mauripur’s Mochko area managed to track him down.
An official statement from SSP Investigation District Keamari confirmed the arrest, stating that further interrogation is underway to determine the cause of the incident and whether negligence or reckless driving led to the tragedy.
Authorities are also examining CCTV footage and eyewitness statements to establish a clear sequence of events. Police emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and holding those responsible accountable under traffic and criminal laws.
This incident highlights the rising number of hit-and-run cases in Karachi, which have become a growing concern for both residents and law enforcement agencies. Many recent cases have involved heavy vehicles operating in residential or restricted areas, leading to fatal accidents.
Officials noted that efforts are ongoing to regulate large vehicles entering the city, especially in densely populated zones. The Keamari district police have also launched an awareness campaign urging drivers to follow traffic rules and maintain caution while driving through busy routes.
In a related development, Islamabad Police recently investigated a major robbery case involving Rs5.5 million, reflecting growing concerns about law enforcement challenges across major cities.
As investigations continue, the family of Muhammad Qasim awaits justice, hoping for strict legal action against those responsible for his untimely death.
