As Karachi prepares to host the much-anticipated opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the city’s traffic police have announced a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure smooth movement for spectators and commuters. The first match, set for February 19 at the National Stadium, will feature Pakistan facing New Zealand.

This historic occasion marks Pakistan’s first ICC event since the 1996 Cricket World Cup, which was co-hosted by the country. The tournament will span from February 19 to March 9, with matches being played across Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai.

The traffic plan, introduced by Traffic Deputy Inspector General, outlines measures to manage the anticipated surge in cricket fans. Sir Shah Suleman Road will remain open on match days, but some roads will be closed to heavy traffic to ease congestion around the stadium. Special parking arrangements have been made at the National Coaching Centre, Expo Centre, and China Ground, with fans arriving from Karsaz directed to these areas via the flyover route.
Heavy vehicles will have access to specific routes, including Sohrab Goth to Nipa, Liaquatabad No. 10 to Hassan Square, and PP Chowrangi to University Road. However, access will be restricted in the vicinity of the stadium, and spectators are encouraged to use only designated parking areas.
Public entry to the stadium will be allowed through the main gates, along with gates 4, 5, 6, 12, 13, and 14, while VIP vehicles will use gate 8. CNG-equipped vehicles will not be permitted inside the stadium. With the match set to begin at 2 p.m. PST, gates will open three hours prior to the start, allowing fans ample time to enter.
As the tournament kicks off, Pakistan, the defending champions from the 2017 edition, will look to make a strong start. Extensive upgrades to Gaddafi Stadium, National Stadium, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium have created world-class venues for this prestigious event.
