Bangladesh and Pakistan are set to resume Karachi-Dhaka direct flights after a 14-year break, officials announced on Thursday. The first flight is scheduled for January 29, 2026, and will operate twice a week. This marks the first regular service between the two cities since 2012. “We are relaunching the Dhaka-Karachi route with two weekly flights,” said Bosra Islam, manager at Bangladesh’s national airline.
The airline added that the resumption of Karachi-Dhaka direct flights will enhance connectivity, support tourism, facilitate business travel, and make family visits easier. Currently, passengers between Pakistan and Bangladesh must use connecting flights via Gulf hubs such as Dubai or Doha, increasing travel time and costs.
The move follows a warming of diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries. Cargo shipping routes between Karachi and Bangladesh’s Chittagong port resumed in November 2024. Trade between Pakistan and Bangladesh has grown steadily since then.
Cultural exchanges are also increasing. Pakistani singers have performed in Dhaka, while Bangladeshi patients are increasingly traveling to Pakistan for medical care. The resumption of Karachi-Dhaka direct flights is expected to further strengthen economic and cultural cooperation. Airlines and travel companies are preparing for a surge in bookings.
Officials say the flights will initially be operated with modern aircraft, providing comfortable seating, in-flight meals, and other standard services.
Travel experts believe that resuming direct flights will make it easier for students, professionals, and tourists to travel between the two countries. It will also improve trade links for small and medium-sized businesses. Authorities from both countries emphasized that security, scheduling, and health protocols will be strictly observed to ensure a safe and smooth experience for all travelers.
Passengers are encouraged to book their tickets in advance as flights are expected to fill quickly due to high demand. Travel between Pakistan and Bangladesh are set to improve further as Pakistan approves Biman Bangladesh Skies access, enhancing trade and connectivity.
The airline stated that plans could be made to increase flight frequency in the future if demand continues to rise. The relaunch of Karachi-Dhaka direct flights is a historic step in strengthening regional connectivity, trade, and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
