Dairy Farmers Threaten Rs50 Increase in Milk Rates

Dairy farmers have demanded an immediate Rs50 increase in milk prices, citing severe financial strain and the risk of livestock starvation after recent floods.

At a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, leaders of the Dairy Farmers Association said production costs had surged by nearly 30%, leaving farmers unable to sustain operations. They estimated daily losses of about Rs3 billion in milk supply.

Karachi’s one million cattle and buffalo produce around five million litres of milk daily, currently sold at Rs220 per litre. Farmers argued that raising the price to Rs270 was essential for survival.

They warned that without government action, animals could face starvation due to soaring fodder and input costs. The association set an October 1 deadline, threatening a protest outside the Chief Minister’s House if the Sindh government fails to approve the hike.
