The upcoming Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Karachi will operate entirely on electric buses, making it a fully eco-friendly initiative.
Sindh’s Senior Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, shared these details during a visit with a World Bank delegation to the Yellow Line project site near Jam Sadiq Bridge.
Funded by the World Bank, the Yellow Line will stretch from Dawood Chowrangi in Quaidabad to Numaish, passing through the Korangi Industrial Area, Main Korangi Road, FTC Interchange, Sharea Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, and Kashmir Road, eventually merging with the Red Line at Numaish.
Calling it a transformative step for Karachi, the minister stated that the Yellow Line aims to provide safe, efficient, and affordable public transport. “We will use only electric buses to minimize environmental harm,” he said.
Memon also highlighted the successful launch of Pakistan’s first electric bus service and the Pink Bus for women under their administration. He noted that the Yellow Line would further help cut fuel costs and reduce pollution levels.
He added that the electric scooter program for women had already received over 8,000 applications. Memon described the Yellow Line not just as a transit solution, but as a catalyst for social change.
The minister also briefed the delegation on the progress of the Karachi Circular Railway and the Karachi-Sukkur high-speed rail project.
