[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has taken a major blow with the news that their limited-overs captain Kane Williamson will miss the ODI World Cup in India due to a knee injury.

Williamson suffered the injury while playing for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, when his knee buckled under him while attempting a catch. The batter was then flown back to his home country, where scans revealed that he had torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament, or ACL.

ACL injuries require surgery and typically take 9 to 10 months to fully heal, implying that Williamson will return before the October/November tournament.

Naturally, it’s disappointing to sustain such an injury, but my focus now is on undergoing surgery and beginning rehabilitation, according to a press release.

It will take some time, but I will do everything possible to return to the field as soon as possible, according to the statement.

The loss of Kane Williamson for the 2023 ODI World Cup is a huge blow for the Kiwis, who have reached the finals of the previous two tournaments under his leadership.

The majority of the 32-year-6,554 old’s ODI runs have come in crucial situations.

Tim Southee, who currently captains the Blackcaps in test cricket, is the most likely replacement, while Tom Latham, who will lead the team against Pakistan, is also in the running.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
