K-Electric has formally announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi, has tendered his resignation. The disclosure was made through a material information filing dated February 6, 2026, submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange and the relevant regulator, confirming a major leadership change at the power utility.
The resignation follows months of controversy linked to harassment allegations raised by a former senior employee of K-Electric. The issue has remained under public and institutional scrutiny, creating sustained pressure on the company’s leadership and governance structure.
According to reports, Alvi had been under significant mental stress for several months due to accusations made by K-Electric’s former chief marketing and communications officer. The complainant alleged harassment, intimidation, mental agony, threats, and the creation of a hostile work environment involving Alvi and others within the organization.
Alvi joined K-Electric in 2008 and served in multiple senior roles, including chief financial officer, company secretary, and head of treasury. He was appointed chief executive officer in 2018 and went on to lead several corporate initiatives, including the widely publicized Roshani Baji programme, while also acting as a key public representative of the company.
The matter was previously taken up by the Sindh High Oversight Authority headed by retired Justice Shah Nawaz Tariq. The authority initially ordered Alvi’s removal and imposed a fine of Rs. 2.5 million. Alvi denied the allegations and announced his intention to challenge the decision through legal channels.
However, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori later overturned the provincial order issued on July 31, 2025, citing ignored evidence and procedural gaps. The governor’s ruling stated that no written complaint had been filed with K-Electric’s relevant committee and that chat records submitted did not substantiate several allegations. In its filing, K-Electric did not provide details on succession planning or interim leadership arrangements.
