Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) has once again called for early general elections in Pakistan. The party says ongoing political uncertainty is damaging the country’s stability and governance.
Speaking to Samaa TV, JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza said fresh elections are the only workable solution to the current political situation. He stressed that Pakistan cannot move forward without a new public mandate. According to him, prolonged uncertainty is creating economic and political pressure.
The senator said general elections should be held within the next one year. He emphasized that the polls must be conducted under transparent and neutral conditions. He also highlighted the importance of trust in the electoral process.
Kamran Murtaza rejected the idea of holding elections under a caretaker government. Instead, he proposed the formation of a national government before elections. He said such a setup would include major political parties and would work with consensus.
According to him, a national government would be more credible than a caretaker administration. He added that it could help reduce political tension ahead of elections. He believes this approach would create an environment of peace and stability.
The JUI-F leader said political consensus is necessary for credible elections. He also stressed the need for a neutral Election Commission. Without these conditions, he warned, doubts over election results may continue.
Commenting on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s demand to meet the Chief Justice, Kamran Murtaza expressed reservations. He said it was inappropriate for a political party to seek a meeting as a group. He explained that such actions could raise questions about judicial neutrality.
He added that if PTI leaders had approached the Chief Justice in their role as lawyers, the meeting could have been possible. He named Barrister Gohar, Ali Zafar, and Salman Akram Raja in this context.
Kamran Murtaza said the judiciary must stay away from political disputes. He warned that any perception of political involvement could harm public trust in institutions.
