Sabir Shah defeated Shan Ali of the Pakistan Army, securing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s first-ever gold medal in Judo history at the National Games.

His path to success was paved with thunderous victories, as he defeated athletes from Wapda, Balochistan, and the Police in the preliminary rounds before making it to the final.

Along with the skilled judoka Hamid, Shah has earned the honour of representing Pakistan at an international Judo event in Russia next month.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympian judoka Shah Hussain Shah has announced that he would not compete in the Asian Games or the 2024 Olympics Qualifiers.

Shah emphasised the significant budgetary constraints associated with professional preparation for events such as the Asian Games and Olympics.

Shah Hussain, Pakistan’s lone judoka, competed in the Olympics twice, once in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and again in Tokyo in 2020, qualifying through the continental quota.

The Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) suffered financial problems, preventing the country’s top athletes, including Shah, from competing in critical qualifying competitions.

While Shah still has a chance to qualify for the Olympics, he has chosen not to pursue the difficult challenge for a variety of reasons, including financial constraints.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
