Joe Root Becomes First Englishman to Reach 13,000 Test Runs

Joe Root has etched his name into cricketing history by becoming the first English batter to surpass 13,000 Test runs, achieving the milestone during England’s four-day Test against Zimbabwe at Edgbaston. Root reached the landmark with characteristic calmness, highlighting the class and consistency that have defined his illustrious Test career.

He now joins an elite group of just five players to cross the 13,000-run mark, alongside legends Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Rahul Dravid. Remarkably, Root is also the fastest to the milestone in terms of matches, reaching it in just 153 Tests. In terms of innings, he ranks fifth, achieving the feat in his 279th.

The milestone underlines Root’s exceptional endurance and adaptability, especially during a transformative period for England’s Test team. With at least eight more Test matches scheduled for England in 2025, Root will have ample opportunity to narrow the gap on Tendulkar’s towering all-time record of 15,921 Test runs.

As he builds on his 36 Test centuries and strengthens his legacy, Root’s continued pursuit of cricketing greatness will be closely followed by fans and analysts alike.
