Job seekers wearing mask in China

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]In order to prevent discrimination based on appearance, a company in Chengdu, China has received accolades for requesting that both job seekers and recruiters wear masks.

The recruitment procedure for Chengdu Ant Logistics was documented in a video that quickly became popular on Chinese social media. The brief video, which was allegedly taken by one of the interviewees, depicts a number of disguised people waiting to be interviewed by an unidentified recruiter. Since then, the business has released a statement on the subject, claiming that the video was taken at its most recent biannual recruitment fair and that the masked individuals were included to reduce bias based on appearance.

The Chinese logistics company said that the bizarre recruitment method was implemented to reduce the job candidates’ stress levels and also to emphasize the fact that it values people’s individual abilities over their appearance.

The video doing the rounds on Chinese social media got generally positive feedback from millions of people, many of whom said that they wouldn’t mind wearing a mask when applying for a new job.

“As a person with social phobia, I would really enjoy such a job interview,” one person wrote on Douyu.

“This is equality, good looks should not count,” another person added.

However, some people voiced scepticism regarding the veracity of the company’s justification. Although the video was captured by a real job applicant, it is claimed that the masks were given out to safeguard people’s identities because the interviews were live-streamed. Some contend that Chengdu Ant Logistics just used the interview as a publicity gimmick once the video became popular.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
