Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced plans for a nationwide strike to begin after August 14, intensifying the party’s campaign against escalating electricity bills and inflation. This comes amid the party’s ongoing sit-in at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, which has reached its 12th day with no resolution despite multiple rounds of negotiations with the government.
In a recent interview, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman outlined Jamaat-e-Islami’s planned demonstrations, including a protest on Murree Road on August 8, and sit-ins in Lahore and Multan on August 14 and August 16, respectively. The Lahore sit-in will take place in front of the Chief Minister’s House, while the Multan protest will focus on issues related to high utility bills and rising unemployment.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman criticized the government for failing to address the issues of high electricity costs and economic hardship, warning that continued inaction could lead to widespread unrest and chaos. He noted that the current sit-in has attracted support from various segments of society, not just Jamaat-e-Islami workers, and invited other parties to join the movement.
The Emir also mentioned that while the party is prepared to escalate its actions, it seeks to avoid chaos and may announce a historic strike date in coordination with traders and other stakeholders. The ongoing sit-in continues to highlight the party’s demands for substantial government action on electricity costs and inflation, with no agreement reached despite previous negotiations.
