JI Chief Criticizes Karachi E-Challan System as ‘Looting Tactic’

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Munem Zafar Khan has strongly criticised the recently launched E-Challan system in Karachi, describing it as a “new looting tactic” by the Sindh government.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Khan claimed that the system has been introduced not to ensure traffic discipline but to generate revenue through unfair fines. He argued that Karachi’s citizens are already burdened by inflation, poor infrastructure, and lack of public transport facilities, and such initiatives only add to their distress.

According to him, the government should first improve road conditions, repair broken traffic signals, and enhance law enforcement mechanisms before imposing fines on citizens. He stressed that the E-Challan system seems more like a tool for exploitation than reform.

The Sindh government, however, maintains that the E-Challan mechanism is designed to ensure transparency and accountability in traffic management. It allows traffic violators to be fined digitally, reducing corruption and human interference. But despite these claims, many Karachi residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the implementation process.

Earlier this week, the Sindh authorities also decided to crack down on quack doctors across the province to strengthen accountability in the health sector another move that has sparked mixed reactions among citizens.

Political observers suggest that JI’s criticism of the E-Challan initiative is part of its ongoing campaign against what it sees as Sindh government mismanagement in Karachi. The party has been vocal about civic issues, including water shortages, waste disposal, and poor public transport.

Khan urged the authorities to address citizens’ grievances and adopt policies that genuinely benefit the people rather than impose additional financial pressures.
