Veteran actress and Indian politician Jaya Bachchan expressed strong displeasure in the Rajya Sabha (upper house of the Indian parliament) after being addressed in the name of her husband, Amitabh Bachchan.
During a parliamentary session, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan invited her to speak by saying, “Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan Ji, please.” Reacting sharply, Jaya Bachchan reminded the deputy chairman and everyone present that she has her own distinct identity. She asserted, “Just saying Jaya Bachchan would have been enough.”

Jaya Bachchan criticized the emerging trend of women being known by their husband’s names, implying they lack personal identity, achievements, and recognition. “This is a completely new phenomenon,” she stated.
