Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has officially assumed the position of ICC Chairman following the conclusion of Greg Barclay’s tenure. Indian media reports confirmed that Shah began his first three-year term as Chairman, a role that also makes him eligible for re-election for another three-year term.
Shah’s election to the post of ICC Chairman comes after Barclay’s announcement to step down in August. Barclay’s term officially ended on November 30, and despite earlier speculations about a possible extension due to the Champions Trophy’s uncertainties, the transition proceeded smoothly as scheduled.

The ICC’s confirmation marks the start of Shah’s leadership, and his unopposed election as Chairman reflects confidence in his abilities. While there had been talks of an extension for Barclay’s tenure, especially with the timing of major tournaments, the transition was carried out without delay.
Shah’s appointment is seen as a significant moment for cricket governance, as he steps into a pivotal leadership role after his successful tenure with the BCCI.
