India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to return to international cricket as he has been named in the Asia Cup 2025 squad. This marks his comeback to T20 internationals after more than a year.
The Asia Cup 2025 will be hosted by India but played in the UAE from September 9 to 28. Bumrah last played in the T20 World Cup in June 2024, where he took 15 wickets and was named Player of the Series. His impressive performance included a key spell of 2 wickets for 18 runs in the final against South Africa.
Since then, Jasprit Bumrah has missed many games due to injuries and workload management. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been cautious about his fitness. Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors, said the priority is to keep Bumrah fit for major tournaments and important series. Agarkar added, “We want him available for all big games like World Cups and series against top teams.”
The team will be captained by Suryakumar Yadav, with Shubman Gill as vice-captain. The squad also features young players like Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, along with experienced all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel. Wicketkeeping duties will be shared by Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma.
India is in Group A, competing against Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. The team’s group matches will take place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi between September 10 and 19.
India has won the Asia Cup eight times, the most by any team. Fans are hopeful that Jasprit Bumrah’s return will strengthen India’s bowling attack and help them win a ninth title.
