Pakistan and Japan have signed a $263 million agreement aimed at enhancing human resource development in Pakistan. The agreement, signed on Tuesday, will provide scholarships for Pakistani government employees to pursue higher education in Japan.
The Human Resource Development Scholarship program will support 16 federal employees, offering them the opportunity to study for Master’s degrees at top Japanese universities. The program is part of Japan’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s public sector by improving administrative skills and policy formulation abilities.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Economic Affairs Division of Pakistan. Since its inception in 2018, seven batches of Pakistani civil servants have benefited from the scholarship, contributing to professional development and improving bilateral relations.
Dr. Kazim Niaz, Pakistan’s Secretary of Economic Affairs, expressed gratitude for Japan’s continued support, highlighting the importance of such programs in advancing Pakistan’s human capital. The Japanese Ambassador also reaffirmed Japan’s dedication to Pakistan’s development, emphasizing the lasting partnership between the two countries.
Japan’s investment in Pakistan’s workforce underscores the growing educational and professional ties between the nations. This agreement marks a significant step forward in strengthening Japan-Pakistan cooperation in human resource development.
