The IT Minister, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced the launch of the Agri Stack, a new digital platform designed to improve farming in Pakistan using artificial intelligence (AI). This platform aims to help farmers make better decisions by providing accurate agricultural data.
During a recent event, the IT Minister explained that the Agri Stack is part of the government’s broader vision to build a “Digital Nation.” The platform was developed with the support of the Land Information and Management System (LIMS) and integrates data from various sources, including NADRA’s National Data Layer.
The IT Minister emphasized that farmers’ consent is crucial. No data will be shared without their approval. To protect users, the government will introduce new data sharing laws and a Data Protection Bill.
Following the success of the Agri Stack, the IT Minister revealed plans to launch a “Health Stack.” This new platform will help identify disease hotspots across Pakistan, further supporting the country’s digital infrastructure goals.
The IT Minister also encouraged startups and young professionals to explore opportunities in agri-tech. She highlighted the role of Ignite, the government’s technology fund, in providing training and support to Agri Stack startups.
By using digital tools like the Agri Stack, the government aims to increase agricultural productivity and address food security challenges. The IT Minister cited the Netherlands as an example of how technology can boost agricultural exports and economic growth.
The Agri Stack is a key step toward creating an integrated digital ecosystem in Pakistan. The IT Minister stated that these technology-driven initiatives will benefit farmers and contribute to the country’s overall development.
