Israel has carried out an airstrike targeting Yemen’s Hodeida Port, a key location held by Houthi rebels. This strike occurred on Monday, marking another attack in the ongoing conflict linked to the Gaza war.
According to an Israeli military statement, the strike focused on military targets at Hodeida Port. These included engineering vehicles, fuel containers, and naval vessels allegedly used for hostile activities. Israel accused the Houthis of using the port to transfer weapons from Iran, which were then deployed against Israeli targets.
A security official from the Houthi group confirmed the attack, stating that the port’s dock was destroyed. The dock had previously been rebuilt after earlier strikes. Houthi-run Al-Masirah television also reported several air raids on Hodeida Port.
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz stated the military action aimed to prevent the restoration of “terror infrastructure” at Hodeida Port. He warned that Yemen could face consequences similar to those experienced by Iran during the recent conflict between Israel and Iran.
The attack on Hodeida Port is part of a series of Israeli air raids against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. These raids have intensified since October 2023, following repeated missile and drone attacks by the Houthis. The rebel group claims its actions show solidarity with Palestinians.
The Houthis have also targeted ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Their aim is to pressure Israel to end the Gaza conflict. The situation around Hodeida Port remains tense as military operations continue.
In summary, the recent Israel strikes on Hodeida Port highlight the ongoing regional tensions. Both sides continue to engage in actions affecting the strategic port and the wider conflict in Yemen.
