Both Christian and Muslim residents from the besieged region had sought refuge in the Greek Orthodox Saint Porphyrius Church due to the ongoing conflict. The Gaza Strip’s interior ministry confirmed casualties resulting from the Israeli attack, and witnesses reported damage to the church’s facade, along with the collapse of an adjacent building.
On the other hand, the Israeli army asserted that the strike caused damage to only a portion of the church as they were aiming to target a Hamas command and control center. The church is situated near a hospital that had been targeted earlier, resulting in over 500 Palestinian casualties.
