Tensions flared again along the Israel-Lebanon border as Israeli forces carried out fresh airstrikes on southern Lebanon, claiming they were aimed at Hezbollah targets. The Israeli military stated that the strikes targeted “terrorist infrastructure” and rocket launch sites allegedly used to attack northern Israel.
Residents in several Lebanese villages reported heavy explosions overnight, with smoke and fire visible from miles away. Local media in Lebanon said civilian areas were also affected, though there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Hezbollah has not officially confirmed any losses but vowed to continue its “resistance” in response to Israeli aggression. The group said it launched retaliatory attacks on Israeli military positions near the border earlier in the day.
The renewed violence comes amid growing fears of a wider regional escalation, as clashes between Israeli and Hezbollah forces have intensified in recent weeks. Both sides have exchanged artillery and drone strikes since the start of the Gaza conflict.
International observers have urged restraint, warning that continued escalation could drag Lebanon into a deeper conflict at a time of economic and political instability. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has also called on both sides to avoid actions that threaten the fragile ceasefire.
The Israeli Defense Forces said the strikes will continue “as long as Hezbollah poses a threat,” while Lebanon’s government condemned the attack as a violation of its sovereignty.
