The Israeli government approved a temporary ceasefire proposal from the United States to cover Ramadan as Muslims observe the Holy Month.

The plan, introduced by US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, includes the release of half of the 59 Israeli hostages held by Hamas—both living and deceased—on the first day of the ceasefire. The remaining hostages would be freed if a permanent ceasefire agreement is reached by the end of the proposed period.

While the ceasefire extension is welcomed, resolving the conflict remains challenging, requiring more time for negotiations on a long-term solution.

Israel agreed to the proposal primarily to secure the release of hostages, but Hamas has yet to accept the terms. Israel emphasized that while Hamas has violated past agreements, it has so far complied with this one.

If Hamas changes its stance, Israel is open to further talks. However, Israel warned that if negotiations stall, it may resume military action after the initial 42-day ceasefire-hostage deal expires on Saturday.
