Israel has said it expects Germany to lift the temporary halt on arms exports following the recent Gaza ceasefire. The Israeli government believes the end of hostilities has created conditions for Berlin to restore normal export operations.
Germany had earlier stopped certain military exports to Israel over concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The suspension was announced in August, marking a rare move by one of Israel’s key European partners.
According to Israeli officials, the ceasefire now changes the situation on the ground. They said the restriction was imposed due to the conflict, and with peace returning, there is no reason for the ban to continue.
Germany, meanwhile, has signaled that it may review the decision soon. Officials in Berlin said the government will assess the situation before making any announcement. The review will consider whether the ceasefire remains stable and whether exports would comply with international law.
Analysts say the issue is politically sensitive for both sides. Germany has long supported Israel’s security but also faces domestic pressure to ensure arms exports are not used in conflicts that cause civilian harm.
If the ban is lifted, it would mark a diplomatic easing between the two countries after months of tension. Israel hopes this step will strengthen its defense partnership with Germany and help restore confidence in their long-term cooperation.
