Islamabad’s iconic restaurant has shut down permanently

The Monal restaurant in Islamabad will close on September 11, 2024, following a directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. This decision comes as part of an order mandating the closure of all restaurants operating within Margalla National Park to protect the park’s biodiversity.

The Supreme Court’s ruling aims to address the environmental impact of human activities within the protected area. By shutting down establishments like Monal, the court seeks to preserve the park’s natural habitats and ecological balance.

Monal, known for its scenic location and popularity among locals and tourists, will cease operations as part of the court’s efforts to reduce human impact on the park. The restaurant’s management has not yet announced any plans for relocation or future operations outside the park. This move underscores the importance of safeguarding natural environments from the adverse effects of urban development and commercial activities.
