Islamabad’s Food Safety Standards Exposed in Operation

Share

In the month of July, the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) conducted inspections at 427 food establishments across the city.

The outcomes of these inspections have sparked worries and cast uncertainty on the previously well-regarded status of Islamabad’s commendable food cleanliness standards.

Interestingly, out of the numerous food outlets evaluated, only one adhered to the IFA’s hygiene criteria. A total of 12 food establishments were shut down due to severe violations that posed potential risks to public health.

Inferior products, such as chicken, meat, cold beverages, milk, yogurt, and oil, were disposed of to prevent their inclusion in the food distribution chain.

A significant number of food establishments, precisely 402, were issued directives by the IFA to improve their hygiene protocols.

Ordinarily, Islamabad has been held up as a model for food hygiene standards across the country. Nonetheless, these recent findings have brought into question the consistency and effectiveness of the city’s food safety oversight.

As the IFA takes measures to tackle these concerns and enhance food hygiene across Islamabad, both consumers and authorities are optimistic for a prompt resolution to ensure the welfare of residents and uphold the reputation of the city’s food industry.
