Islamabad Will Receive 10 Million Gallons Of Water Due To The New Dam

The Capital Development Authority has moved forward with the Shahdara Dam project as part of efforts to address Islamabad’s growing water needs. The district administration’s revenue department will acquire the required land to facilitate construction in the Shahdara area.

According to officials, the proposed dam is expected to supply around 10 million gallons of water per day to residents of the federal capital. The project is being positioned as a long-term solution to rising water shortages caused by population growth and increasing demand.

CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa chaired a high-level meeting and instructed officials to take immediate steps for the early launch of the project. During the briefing, officers informed him that WAPDA has already completed the feasibility study for the dam.

The feasibility report includes preliminary estimates related to land acquisition, water conveyance systems, and the construction of a water treatment plant. Officials said the project has been technically assessed and found viable for implementation.

The Shahdara Dam will cover an area of approximately 25 acres, and work on its detailed design is expected to begin soon. After design completion, the PC-1 proposal will be submitted to the CDA Development Working Party.

Randhawa directed that Suparco should conduct a survey before land acquisition begins and stressed strict adherence to legal requirements. He also ordered that the feasibility and design reports be reviewed by the twin cities’ water committee.
