Three-time champions Islamabad United have announced another addition to their squad ahead of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League, which is scheduled to take place from March 26 to May 3.
The franchise confirmed the signing of top-order batter Mohammad Faiq through its official social media platforms. The right-handed batter brings strong domestic T20 experience and is expected to add depth to the team’s batting lineup for the upcoming season.
Faiq has delivered impressive performances in domestic T20 competitions. In 12 matches, he has scored 443 runs at an outstanding average of 63.28, while maintaining an aggressive strike rate of 189.31. His record includes two half-centuries and two centuries, highlighting his ability to play impactful innings.
Interestingly, Faiq had previously been included in Islamabad United’s squad but did not get the opportunity to feature in any matches. With his latest signing, he is now expected to make his debut for the franchise during the upcoming PSL campaign.
Earlier, Islamabad United also strengthened their lineup during the league’s player auction held at the Expo Centre Lahore on February 11. This auction marked a historic shift for the PSL, replacing the traditional player draft system that had been used since the league’s launch in 2016.
During the auction, Islamabad United secured the services of all-rounder Faheem Ashraf for Rs. 85 million following a competitive bidding process. The team further reinforced its squad by signing players such as Mark Chapman, Mohammad Wasim Jr, and Max Bryant.
The franchise also retained several key players, including Imad Wasim, Richard Gleeson, and Haider Ali to strengthen both their bowling attack and middle-order batting options.
In another change, the team replaced Shamar Joseph with Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani.
Meanwhile, captain Shadab Khan was retained in the platinum category. Pacer Salman Irshad and USA wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous were retained in the gold and silver categories respectively.
Additionally, the franchise signed New Zealand batter Devon Conway directly for Rs. 63 million.
The upcoming PSL season will begin on March 26, with defending champions Lahore Qalandars facing newcomers Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen in the opening match at Gaddafi Stadium.
