Islamabad to Modernize City Parking with Digital Fee System

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has made the decision to modernize the infrastructure of the federal capital by introducing a digital system for public parking fees.

In accordance with this plan, authorities will implement a parking management information system, aimed at bringing innovation to the way individuals make payments for parking.

The Department of Metropolitan Administration (DMA) has solicited expressions of interest from fintech and technology solution providers. Initially, the project will concentrate on some of Islamabad’s most frequented areas, including F-9 Park, Lake View, and the Centaurus Parking facility.

Additionally, the digitization initiative will extend to G-9 Public Transport and parking at Kohsar Market. The parking fees at the two plazas in F-7 will also be incorporated into the digital system.

Elaborating on the parking management system, an official from MCI disclosed that it will be established through a public-private partnership. The complete system will be implemented by a private company under a revenue-sharing model.

The official emphasized that there will be no changes in the parking fees. This means that motorcycle and car parking will continue to cost Rs. 30 and Rs. 50, respectively, in alignment with the existing rates set by MCI.

In the subsequent phase, other areas in the city will undergo digitization. DMA also conducted an auction for the collection of parking fees at F-9, but unfortunately, no company expressed interest in participating in the auction.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
