The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has broadened its vehicle emission testing system to include private vehicles, aiming to tackle rising environmental pollution in the city.

Previously focused on government vehicles, the campaign—led by the Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA)—now encourages private citizens to participate. Emission checks for official vehicles are already underway, and the city plans to establish multiple testing points across Islamabad.

ITA Chairman Irfan Nawaz Memon, along with Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad, visited a testing site to review operations. Memon confirmed that emission testing is now available to the public and announced that several more inspection locations will be introduced for easier access.

To ensure compliance, the ITA will collaborate with Islamabad Traffic Police. Strict action, including joint operations, will be taken against those avoiding or failing emission checks. Non-compliant vehicles could face fines or impoundment.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to combat air pollution and improve public health. Authorities are committed to expanding inspections across all vehicle types and locations in the city.

Memon urged citizens to voluntarily get their vehicles tested, stressing that cleaner air is a shared responsibility. Awareness campaigns will also be launched to educate the public on the importance of emission testing and environmental conservation.
