The Public Private Partnership Authority (P3A) Board has approved funding support for Islamabad Technopolis.
The funding will help prepare the project under a public-private partnership model. The decision was made during the authority’s 44th board meeting.
The meeting was held in Islamabad on Monday. Prime Minister’s Adviser on Privatisation Muhammad Ali chaired the meeting.
The approved support will finance important preparation work for the project. It will also help appoint a transaction adviser for the proposed development.
The adviser will assist in creating a suitable public-private partnership structure. The aim is to make the project financially and commercially viable.
Islamabad Technopolis is being developed by the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA). The planned Technology Park will serve as an integrated technology hub.
The project is designed to support technology-related activities and investment. It will focus on innovation, technology exports and skilled employment.
The Technology Park is also expected to promote technology transfer. It could provide opportunities for companies and investors to participate in Pakistan’s technology sector.
Private-sector participation will be an important part of the project. The initiative aims to attract private investment for developing the proposed technology hub.
The PPP model is expected to provide a framework for cooperation between the government and private investors. The funding approved by the P3A Board will support the early preparation stage.
Project preparation is an important step before a major PPP initiative moves forward. It can help establish the project’s financial structure and investment requirements.
The appointment of a transaction adviser will further support this process. The adviser will help develop the proposed structure and assess its commercial potential.
The board also reviewed another proposal during its meeting. The proposal involves the commercial development of selected Pakistan Railways properties.
The plan will be implemented through the Railway Estate Development and Marketing Company (REDAMCO). A pilot project is planned for railway properties in Karachi.
Additional railway sites could be included in later phases. Their selection will depend on the performance of the initial pilot project.
The railway property initiative aims to use valuable land for commercial purposes. Private-sector participation will be used to support the development process.
Officials expect the initiative to create sustainable revenue streams for Pakistan Railways. It could also improve the commercial use of railway-owned properties.
The two proposals reflect efforts to expand private-sector involvement in public projects. The P3A Board is supporting projects that can attract investment and generate long-term benefits.
For Islamabad Technopolis, the next stage will focus on project preparation. The Technology Park will require a viable structure before development can begin.
The project could contribute to Pakistan’s technology ecosystem if successfully implemented. It is intended to support innovation, investment and skilled employment.
