PM Housing Loans Approved Worth Rs220.68 Billion

Pakistan has approved more than Rs. 220.68 billion in housing loans under the Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar Program.

Around Rs. 34.27 billion has already been disbursed under the program. The government is reviewing further steps to improve access to housing finance.

The progress was discussed during the second meeting of the Access to Finance Steering Committee. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired the meeting on Monday.

The committee reviewed progress under the Prime Minister’s Access to Finance Plan 2026-28. The plan covers financing for housing, agriculture and small businesses.

According to the Finance Division, banks have approved more than Rs. 220.68 billion in housing loans. The approved amount is now ready for disbursement to eligible borrowers.

The government is also considering measures to make lending easier. These measures include legal reforms and improvements in financial data systems.

The committee discussed a proposed wholesale financing framework as well. The framework will be shared with banks before its final approval.

Officials stressed the importance of clear rules for the proposed financing system. They also highlighted the need for proper controls where government support is involved.

The committee also reviewed agricultural financing initiatives. Officials discussed plans to strengthen crop insurance for farmers.

The government is considering expanding the Crop Loan Insurance Scheme toward area yield insurance. Officials said this could improve access to insurance payments.

Better coordination with banks and non-bank financial institutions was also discussed. The aim is to expand financing opportunities for the agriculture sector.

Housing finance was another key area discussed during the meeting. The government plans to improve the process through digital land and property records.

Faster verification of property ownership documents is also being considered. These steps could make mortgage-based lending more efficient.

The government also plans greater engagement with property developers. Financing could be provided against properly registered and verifiable property titles.

These measures are expected to support wider access to PM Housing Loans. The government aims to reduce barriers that prevent people from obtaining housing finance.

The committee also reviewed progress under the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification Program. Officials said more than 1,200 electric bikes have been delivered to customers.

The government plans to expand financing for electric vehicle mobility. The initiative supports the broader transition toward electric vehicles.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed continued coordination among key institutions. These include the Finance Ministry, State Bank of Pakistan and SECP.

The Pakistan Banks’ Association and other stakeholders will also remain involved. Their coordination is intended to resolve implementation challenges.

The government is seeking steady progress under the access to finance plan. PM Housing Loans remain an important part of efforts to expand housing opportunities.

The latest figures show significant financing activity under the housing program. However, the government is continuing to review measures for wider access.
