A security lapse occurred in the capital after President Asif Ali Zardari’s convoy deviated from its designated VVIP route, leading to the removal of a senior traffic officer.
SSP Traffic (Retd) Captain Syed Zeeshan Haider, responsible for the President’s movement, was dismissed over negligence and poor coordination.
The incident happened Thursday evening when President Zardari, along with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and others, was en route to a private event in Bahria Town. The convoy missed a planned turn at Koral Chowk and continued on the Expressway, outside the secure perimeter.
Police sources said the mistake posed a serious threat to the President’s safety and exposed flaws in VVIP movement protocols.
An internal inquiry has been launched, with more disciplinary actions expected. The episode has raised concerns about the effectiveness of security measures for Pakistan’s top leaders.
