A tragic incident shook Islamabad as SP Adeel Akbar, serving in the Industrial Area I-9, allegedly ended his life. Initial reports suggest that while on a phone call, he took a service pistol from a guard and shot himself in the chest.
The officer, belonging to the 46th Common batch and a native of Kamonki, Gujranwala, was immediately shifted to PIMS Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The incident has deeply saddened both the police department and the public.
Heavy police presence was reported outside the hospital, where Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police Ali Nasir personally oversaw postmortem arrangements and received updates from doctors.
Investigators are now focusing on tracing the person who was on the call with SP Akbar moments before the shooting. His phone has been seized for forensic examination, and officers present at the scene are being questioned.
SP Akbar had previously served in Balochistan. A high-level inquiry has been initiated, including voice analysis of the last call, with initial findings expected within 24 hours.
IG Ali Nasir Rizvi confirmed that CCTV footage from the Safe City system showed no suspicious activity, verifying that the incident occurred inside the car. He added that SP Akbar’s locked mobile phone would undergo forensic testing.
Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, stated that the investigation is ongoing and further detailAwill be disclosed once the inquiry concludes.
