The district administration has launched the second phase of the motorcycle e-tag, or M-Tag, campaign to strengthen security monitoring in the federal capital. The initiative is being supervised by the Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department under updated security directives.
Authorities have set February 28 as the final deadline for motorcycle owners to register and install M-Tags. Officials said the move is part of broader surveillance measures aimed at improving vehicle tracking and law enforcement efficiency across the city.
Director General Excise Irfan Memon stated that owners can complete registration and tagging until the deadline. However, from March 1, strict enforcement will begin. Motorcycles without M-Tags will be impounded, and riders will not be permitted to operate untagged vehicles within Islamabad.
According to officials, more than 2,000 motorcycles have already been issued M-Tags during the second phase of the campaign. The department has extended working hours and ensured that M-Tag centers remain open even on holidays to facilitate citizens.
Additional staff have also been deployed at registration centers to handle the increased influx of applicants. Authorities said these steps are intended to ensure a smooth process and prevent last-minute rushes before the deadline.
The administration recently made electronic tagging mandatory due to heightened security concerns. Officials maintain that the system will improve monitoring, enhance public safety, and help curb crime in the capital. Citizens have been urged to comply with the requirement to avoid penalties and inconvenience.
