Key Points from the Letter:

  • Incident Date: The theft occurred on May 21, 2024, when sensitive bomb disposal equipment stored in the basement was reported stolen after office hours.
  • Investigation Trigger: The existence of this sensitive equipment had not been disclosed to the newly appointed Director General or any trustworthy officials, prompting the report to the Ministry of Interior for an investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
  • Findings of the Investigation: A fact-finding committee discovered that on November 26, 2023, a truck with registration number ICT-GD-879 arrived at the National Institute of Fire Technology (NIFTECH) in H-11/4, Islamabad, where sensitive equipment was loaded and taken to an unknown location. No records of this transfer exist with either NIFTECH or the Directorate General.
  • Involvement of Police: The internal investigation indicated that the truck belonged to the Islamabad Police, with police personnel reportedly seen in the vehicle during the incident. The Admin Officer, Imran Javed, who was involved in both incidents, has since been transferred to the Federal Civil Defence Training School in Faisalabad.

Request for Action:

The letter requests that the Islamabad Police verify if there was any prior agreement regarding the transfer of the equipment and to investigate the involvement of police vehicles and personnel in the transport of the stolen items. An early response to this matter is emphasized as crucial.

This incident raises serious concerns about the security and accountability of sensitive government equipment and the potential implications for public safety.
