Islamabad Police blocks Red Zone with containers in anticipation of protest

The Islamabad administration is taking precautionary measures to prevent a planned protest by Utility Stores Corporation (USC) employees outside Parliament House today. To secure the “Red Zone,” the authorities have deployed 97 freight shipping containers and a large number of police personnel.

In response to nationwide protests by USC employees, the federal government has assured that there are no plans to close down the utility stores. Despite this, the employees have scheduled a protest outside Parliament House for Monday.

To prevent access to the parliament building, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has devised a detailed security plan, blocking key routes leading to the Red Zone with 97 shipping containers.

According to sources, 13 strategic locations have been identified for container placement, including:

  • 10 containers at the ISI checkpoint
  • 8 at Marriott Hotel
  • 26 at Express Chowk
  • 2 at the Election Commission
  • 8 at Nadra Chowk
  • 1 at Fata picket
  • 8 at Serena Turn
  • 14 at Serena traffic signal on Kashmir Highway
  • 4 at Bari Imam T-cross
  • 4 on the road near Kohsar Block
  • 2 at Serena checkpoint
  • 2 at Globe Chowk
  • 2 at Diplomatic Enclave gate

USC employees have indicated that they may escalate their movement if their issues remain unresolved.
