CDA Doubles Metro and Electric Bus Fares in Islamabad, Effective May 26
Islamabad – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced a steep 100% increase in fares for metro and electric buses operating across the capital, effective from May 26, 2025.
According to official sources, the one-way fare for all metro and electric buses has been raised from Rs 50 to Rs 100. The revised fare applies across all 17 routes currently being operated by the CDA.
Additionally, the stop-to-stop fare structure has also been updated, with each segment now costing Rs 100, irrespective of the travel distance.

The CDA’s metro and feeder electric bus services collectively cater to over 90,000 daily passengers, making this hike a significant blow to commuters, particularly students, daily wage earners, and low-income families who rely on public transport for affordable travel.
The fare increase has sparked concerns about accessibility and affordability of public transit, with critics warning it could force many back onto private vehicles or unregulated transport options.
The CDA has yet to issue a formal statement addressing public concerns or providing justification for the sudden hike.
