A Big Timing Change in Islamabad Has Just Been Announced — What’s Behind It

The administration of Islamabad has announced an exemption for several business sectors from early closure timings. The decision will remain valid until May 31, 2026.

The move applies to shops, markets, shopping malls, and restaurants across the city. Officials said the exemption takes effect immediately.

The notification was issued by the Office of the District Magistrate Islamabad Capital Territory (Islamabad Capital Territory Administration). It was issued in continuation of earlier orders dated May 5.

It also refers to a Cabinet Division notification dated May 18. Authorities said the decision is aimed at easing business operations in Islamabad.

Wide Range of Businesses Included

Under the new order, many commercial activities are now exempt from early closure rules. These include retail shops, markets, and shopping malls.

Restaurants and food outlets are also included in the exemption. Bakeries, tandoors, grocery stores, and kiryana shops will continue normal operations.

Meat shops, fruit shops, dry fruit outlets, and vegetable vendors are also covered. Officials said this will help maintain smooth supply of daily goods in Islamabad.

The administration said the step supports both businesses and consumers. It is expected to improve access to essential services across the city.

Restrictions on Event Venues

Despite the exemption, some businesses will still follow fixed closing times. Marriage halls, marquees, and event venues must close by 10pm.

Officials said these venues were excluded due to the nature of large gatherings. They operate on scheduled events and require regulation.

The administration confirmed that these restrictions will remain in place in Islamabad.

Implementation and Coordination

The notification has been shared with multiple departments for enforcement. These include Islamabad Police, Capital Development Authority (Capital Development Authority), Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), and the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).

Officials said all departments will ensure proper implementation. Public awareness efforts will also support compliance.

Business Relief and Public Impact

The administration of Islamabad said the decision aims to balance economic activity and regulation. It provides relief to traders affected by earlier restrictions.

Business owners had expressed concerns about reduced working hours. They said it was affecting daily sales and customer flow.
