Islamabad Begins Setting up M-Tag Scanning Systems

The Islamabad Capital Territory administration, along with the police, has started installing high-tech M-Tag reader systems at various important locations across the federal capital. Officials stated that these devices will automatically identify vehicles that are operating without an M-Tag, enabling enforcement teams to take prompt action against violators.

On Monday, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon and the Director General of Safe City visited multiple installation sites to assess the progress of the ongoing setup. During the inspection, the officials reviewed how the M-Tag readers function and discussed the measures required to ensure that the entire system runs efficiently once enforcement officially begins.

The deputy commissioner explained that police personnel deployed at these locations will stop any vehicle detected by the system for not having an M-Tag. He urged drivers and vehicle owners to get their M-Tags issued at the earliest to avoid inconvenience, legal penalties, or delays once the new system becomes active.

To facilitate the program, the administration has set up 10 M-Tag registration and assistance centers in busy areas of Islamabad. Authorities say that these centers have been set up in strategic locations so that residents can easily access the service and complete the registration process without difficulty.

Officials further added that after the implementation phase is complete, vehicles found traveling without an M-Tag may face strict penalties, which could include heavy fines or even impoundment at police stations. The Safe City project team is also carrying out system integration and technical adjustments to ensure that the readers connect seamlessly with the city’s existing surveillance and monitoring infrastructure.

Once fully operational, the M-Tag reader system is expected to improve traffic management, help in enforcement, and streamline monitoring of non-compliant vehicles across Islamabad.
