Authorities have placed Islamabad and Rawalpindi under tight security as major roads were closed and mobile internet suspended on Wednesday. The Punjab government also imposed Section 144 across the province, banning public gatherings and protests due to security concerns.

Reports from both cities suggest that containers have been placed on main routes leading into the federal capital. Roads connecting Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding districts were sealed early in the morning, creating severe traffic disruptions. Many residents were forced to walk long distances as public transport, including the metro bus service, remained suspended.

Mobile internet services were also restricted in several areas, leaving users without connectivity for most of the day. Officials said these measures were taken to prevent the spread of unrest and maintain law and order. Citizens were advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

The decision to impose Section 144 in Punjab came after intelligence reports warned of possible protests and sit-ins. The provincial administration has directed law enforcement agencies to ensure that no illegal gatherings or processions take place.

In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in large numbers at entry points, government buildings, and sensitive areas. Authorities said the restrictions are temporary and will be lifted once the situation stabilises.

Meanwhile, social media users voiced frustration over the sudden internet suspension, with many complaining about the impact on work and communication. Businesses in the twin cities also reported losses due to low customer turnout.
