Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is set to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 25. The meeting will take place in Washington and marks their first official high-level engagement.
This meeting is a significant step in strengthening ties between Pakistan and the United States. It has been confirmed by US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce. She stated that preparations are complete and top officials from both countries will attend.
Ishaq Dar is currently visiting the United States on an official trip. He is in New York, where he is holding meetings with the Pakistani community. He is also engaging with leading think tanks and international media outlets. After wrapping up his New York visit, he will head to Washington for the talks.
While the full agenda has not been made public, regional security is expected to be a key focus. Sources suggest that topics like the Kashmir conflict, rising border tensions with India, and the status of the Indus Waters Treaty will be discussed.
The timing of the meeting is important. It follows a recent surge in tensions between India and Pakistan. In April, a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir killed 26 people. India blamed Pakistan, but Islamabad denied involvement and called for an independent probe.
On May 7, Indian airstrikes hit targets in Pakistan. This led to a sharp military exchange involving jets, drones, and artillery. The conflict resulted in dozens of casualties before a ceasefire was reached.
During the upcoming meeting, Ishaq Dar is also expected to express appreciation to US President Donald Trump. Pakistan credits Trump for playing a positive role in calming the recent military crisis.
This visit highlights the importance of direct dialogue during uncertain times. The outcome of Ishaq Dar’s meeting with Marco Rubio could shape future regional stability.
