Upon arrival, Ishaq Dar was welcomed by Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Pakistan officially took over the UNSC presidency on July 1. The country is serving a two-year term as a non-permanent member of the Council, which began in January 2025.

According to the Foreign Office, Ishaq Dar will chair an open debate at the UNSC on Tuesday. The session is titled “Promoting International Peace and Security Through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.”

This important discussion will focus on the role of diplomacy, dialogue, and international cooperation in resolving global conflicts. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to take part in the debate.
